INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINED CREATIVITY
Mentor
Brian Clyne
Educator, Digital Designer and Project Manager
I have been an educator, mentor and facilitator for over ten years at Parsons School of Design and Rensselaer Polytechnic University.
Outside of teaching, I maintain my professional practice and manage my own digital design studio. Working with artists, architects and landscape architects, I aid them in conceptualization and visualization while helping them achieve their visions using a broad spectrum of 2D and 3D digital problem solving.
In addition, I am the studio manager for a prominent public artist. The position requires that I wear many hats. I am the lead designer of public art projects and gallery installations. The position requires intensive research which I translate through CAD modeling and prototyping to assist the artist in realizing his final design. Works are created digitally and in many cases the 3D digital models I create are used for direct fabrication.
As project manager, I coordinate with architects, landscape architects, engineers, vendors, fabricators and many city agencies as well as overseeing studio assistants and staff. In addition, I help to search for and apply for new public art opportunities. This includes reading contracts, creating digital presentations and soliciting bids for fabrication.
I believe the various roles I’ve played cross-pollinate and blur into each other. I share my professional experiences and knowledge in tangible ways to stimulate dialogue and community building in an atmosphere of mutual respect. I believe in fostering cooperative and creative environments for experimentation.
