INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINED CREATIVITY
Mentor
Yasmeen Abdallah
Educator, Digital Designer and Project Manager
My practice as an interdisciplinary artist is informed by a dedicated studio practice, active exhibition record, and commitment to community-building through sustainable practices rooted in social justice and civic engagement. This expansive path has deeply informed the ways I engage with people of all ages, allowing for meaningful conversations and connections that support creative practitioners at all career stages.
Much of my work as an educator has been as a fine arts professor, mentor, teaching artist and museum educator, offering feedback and support in navigating critiques; studio visits; portfolio reviews; bios, statements, resumes and cvs; graduate programs; job interviews; grants; creative opportunities; and overall professional development.
I have had the pleasure of serving on numerous panels and juries for open calls and art opportunities over the years, and have expertise in reviewing and structuring successful applications. This also extends to curating many exhibitions throughout NYC, which requires writing strong proposals, selecting artists for exhibitions, installing artwork, and attending to the administrative details that are key elements, including press releases, public programming, a writing discipline, collaborative work, and event coordination.
This career path has been rounded out by participation in, and organizing of artist lectures; residency programs; community workshops; and curriculum writing.
I value this work immensely, and believe in building supportive spaces where creative practitioners can find ways to make their paths easier to navigate. I find joy in helping artists create, hone their voices, and shape their dreams in a world they may thrive in.
